White Sox pitchers and catchers reported to Glendale to open up spring training. With all the youth on the roster, 2018 could be a bumpy ride.

Pitchers and catchers reported to Glendale, Ariz. officially opening 2018 Spring Training for the Chicago White Sox. We’re so close to the season opener, fans can taste it. Rick Renteria will be in his second season at the helm and will stare at a roster of new faces. Mostly in the bullpen.

The White Sox went through trials and tribulations in 2017. We saw them have leads then see the bullpen blow them. We saw an offense that was grossly inconsistent and another losing season. If you can’t stomach this, then you might want to stop now, because 2018 will be a bumpy ride.

Sure I say that but it doesn’t need to be a bad thing. The Sox are still in the developmental stage. Yoan Moncada will play in his first full major league season. He had some bright spots but also some low spots. Tim Anderson really struggled last season before finishing the year strongly. Those are two guys that will need to enhance their level of play if this team is going to get to where it wants to go.

Like all young teams, the Sox are going to go through their ups and downs. We’ll see glimpses of what the future holds. And we’ll also see some ugly losses that have us wondering if Rick Hahn has this rebuild all wrong. That’s all a part of the process. And we see what can happen when you trust the process.

Another losing season shouldn’t be judged as a failure. The failure will be if the young guys, like Moncada regress and the young pitchers don’t get the development they need. 2018 is a developmental year for this organization. It’s a chance to see what they have and what other areas the Sox need to improve on. If the Sox lose 100 games but Moncada, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez have decent years or look like future studs, then the season will be a success.
