The Chicago White Sox are getting solid results from Lucas Giolito this spring, and it continued on Thursday night in Tempe, Ariz. Pitching against the Los Angeles Angels, Giolito had another impressive spring training outing.

Giolito didn’t walk a single batter and recorded four strikeouts. This is coming after a start in which he recorded eight strikeouts against the Cubs on March 10. As Giolito finished last season with some solid starts, he’s carried that over into this spring. The 23-year-old pitcher was largely inconsistent at the start of 2017 in Triple-A but was able to have better consistency on the mound towards the end of the year. This was critical for Giolito as he will be an important part of the White Sox future going forward.

Giolito showed at the end of last season, that he has the makings of a potential ace. Although he’s only made three starts this spring, Giolito is continuing to show ace potential. The Sox haven’t officially named the Opening Day starter for their game against the Kansas City Royals on March 29, but it wouldn’t be surprising if its Giolito. However, James Shields could get the nod to start against his former team.

Despite the possibility of Giolito not starting on Opening Day, he is making the case to be the Sox second starter to begin this season. Giolito could be the team’s ace of the future, but for now, his continued development is crucial to the success of the Sox.

The Sox will face the Cubs on Friday at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz. Reynaldo Lopez will start for the Sox.
