White Sox MiLB Report: Winston-Salem Wins With Walk-Off Grand Slam

White Sox Single-A Advanced affiliate stages an impressive comeback in extra-innings in its series victory at home. Triple-A Charlotte blows save.

Chicago White Sox Single-A Advanced affiliate Winston-Salem won another series at home on Monday night. The Dash were able to stage an impressive 12-10 comeback win in the 10th inning with a walk-off grand slam over the Buies Creek Astros.

Laz Rivera hit the grand slam with the Dash trailing 10-8 in the 10th inning. Winston-Salem trailed against the Astros early in the game. After trailing 8-2 in the seventh inning, the Dash scored six runs to tie the game. Buies Creek would go back on top in the 10th inning by scoring two runs.

Although the Dash trailed again, Rivera was able to hit a grand slam with two outs to give Winston-Salem another series victory. The Dash haven’t lost a series in the second half and currently, have the best record of any White Sox affiliate this season at 58-37. With the Dash losing many top prospects after the Single-A All-Star break, the team has continued to win.

Some of the Sox top prospects are still in Winston-Salem and have been performing well recently. Gavin Sheets, the Sox 11th-ranked prospect had two hits in the team’s win on Monday. He’s hitting .361 with seven RBI’s in his last 10 games. Blake Rutherford, the Sox seventh-ranked prospect is hitting .359 with eight RBI’s in his previous 10 games. Rutherford had one hit on Monday night.

As Winston-Salem won on Monday, Triple-A Charlotte would lose at home. The Knights were defeated by the Pawtucket Red Sox 8-6. Eloy Jimenez had two hits in his second game since returning from injury. Nicky Delmonico, who is on a rehab assignment, went 3-for-5 with two RBI’s for Charlotte. Thyago Vieira blew the save in the 9th inning as the Red Sox scored three runs after trailing 6-5.
