White Sox: Game 162 is over and so is the 2018 regular season
The MLB regular season is over, so the White Sox have played their final game of the 2018 season and that’s probably a good thing.
The White Sox game 162 ended much differently than game one did. And, honestly, it’s about time that this sad, sad season is finally done.
The Sox finished in fourth place in the AL Central with a record of 62-100. Strangely, despite how bad the Sox record was, it actually wasn’t the worst in the MLB. Or the worst in the AL Central.
Across the MLB, five teams finished with win-loss records under .400. At the top of the bottom was the Detroit Tigers, who actually finished in third in the pathetic AL Central with a record of 62-98. The Marlins were the worst team in the NL with a record of 62-98. The ChiSox were in the middle of the bottom. The Royals rounded out the AL Central with a record of 58-114. Then, at the absolute bottom rests the Orioles with a win-loss percentage of .290, which translates to 47-115.

While three teams finished with 100 or more losses, there were also three teams with 100 or more wins. The New York Yankees had 100 wins, but sadly, they still have to play a Wild Card game to continue in the playoffs. The Astros topped the AL West with 103 wins. And, the Red Sox set a new team record by winning 108 games. No NL teams had more than 100 wins.
The season may be over for the White Sox and the rest of the AL, but four teams have one more game to play. For the Dodgers, Rockies, Cubs, and Brewers, games 163 will determine who is a division champion and who has to play one MORE game to determine who plays the winner of the NL Central. In a nutshell, the NL has much more parity than the AL. Where the AL is loaded with teams officially in “rebuild mode,” only one team – the Marlins – is kind of doing the same. The rest are what they are.
The 2018 season has had its fair share of downs, and very few ups. The first two games of the season, against the Royals, were two of the better moments of the season. The Sox won 14-7 and 4-3. Remember Matt Davidson hit three home runs in that first game. In game 162, no Sox hit home runs and Davidson never got on base, but he did score an RBI on a sac fly.

Overall, it was a season full of learning opportunities and a season of hope. Many of the players who spent 2018 honing their skills should be back in 2019 with more experience and drive. I, for one, enjoyed the season and as always, I’m sad that the regular season is over. But, like other White Sox fans, I’m ready for what is next.
