The Chicago White Sox Double-A affiliate Birmingham Barons lost its sixth consecutive game on Saturday. The Barons were defeated by the Montgomery Biscuits 3-2 on the road on Saturday night.
With the loss, the Barons record fell to 9-14 to start this season. For the Barons, they’ve seen many of the White Sox top prospects struggle to begin 2019. On Saturday, Birmingham managed seven hits but only scored two runs. Bernardo Flores pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs while recording five strikeouts.
The Barons have lost seven of their last eight games overall. It’s a shame that so many top prospects are struggling at the same time for the Barons. Micker Adolfo is hitting .203 and went hitless on Saturday night. Gavin Sheets also went hitless on Saturday and is hitting .221 on the season.

Luis Gonzalez went 2-for-3 for the Barons and has a batting average of .238. Hopefully, for the Barons, they can start to get consistent production from White Sox prospects soon.
It will be interesting to see how more prospects can fit with the Barons as there should be some reinforcements coming soon in Luis Alexander Basabe and possibly Luis Robert.
Both Basabe and Robert are with other White Sox affiliates at the moment. Basabe is currently playing with Low-A Kannapolis and Robert is with High-A Winston-Salem. For Basabe, he’s working to get back to Birmingham after starting his season late due to recovering from an injury. In the Intimidators 12-5 win over the Rome Braves on Saturday, Basabe went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one walk.
For Robert, he appeared to be on a fast track to Double-A to start this season but saw his progression yet again stalled by another injury. However, this recent injury didn’t keep him out too long and he returned to action with the Dash this past Friday. On Saturday, Robert went 1-for-5 with a double that scored two runs in the Winston-Salem’s 9-5 win over the Frederick Keys.
In Triple-A, the Charlotte Knights lost 8-4 to the Indianapolis Indians on Saturday. The loss dropped the Knights record to 15-8. Zack Collins went 2-for-4 with an RBI single. Collins has been impressive to start this season and has a slash line of .267/.390/.650 with six home runs, 21 RBIs and a 1.040 OPS. If he continues to perform well, he would surely be in line for a promotion to the Sox this Summer.
