The Chicago White Sox might need a new opponent for the Field of Dreams game and the Cincinnati Reds would be a perfect fit.

The Field of Dreams game was supposed to be an exciting celebration of baseball. The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees were supposed to play a game at the legendary movie site in Iowa but the future of that is in doubt. The baseball season hasn’t even begun yet so it is unclear how this is going to all unfold. The White Sox and Yankees might not have any regular-season games against one another so it makes you wonder how they are going to handle it.

The White Sox obviously can still host the game if the MLB didn’t wanna cancel it. Their opponent might need to change, however, if the New York Yankees are not going to be scheduled to play the White Sox at all. The Chicago Cubs have been a rumored team to take on the White Sox in that game which would certainly be a lot of fun for a lot of reasons.

With that said, another team would be a perfect fit for this game in Iowa. The Cincinnati Reds make a lot of sense for a lot of reasons. The movie “Field of Dreams” is about a man named Ray who builds a baseball field because a voice is telling him to so Shoeless Joe Jackson can come back and have a chance to play ball again.

Shoeless Joe was banned from Major League Baseball for life for his role in the Black Sox Scandal. Well, that scandal was the White Sox blowing the World Series to on purpose to the Cincinnati Reds. The movie has a lot of other themes in it but Ray and Shoeless Joe’s relationship is the main pillar of it all. Ray’s dad’s favorite team was the Yankees but if New York can’t do it, the Reds would be a good idea as well if they want to keep the theme.

If the White Sox and Yankees are separated that likely means that the plan that has all of the midwest teams in one big division came to fruition. The Reds and White Sox would be division rivals for this odd season if that were the case so it is a possible matchup from a scheduling point of view as well. The Reds and White Sox have a long history so seeing them dawn some old school jerseys on the Field of Dreams would really be a sight to behold.
