Chicago White Sox: Winning series vs Cubs was so awesome

The Chicago White Sox took two of three from the Chicago Cubs and it was awesome to see.

The Chicago White Sox lost the final game of the series by a score of 2-1. They didn’t get smacked around as the Chicago Cubs did in their two losses to the White Sox and the main reason they lost was that Yu Darvish had himself a great day. He shut the White Sox down for the most part and took them late into the game. The bullpen was shaky once again for the Cubs and the White Sox made it interesting late but the Cubs hung on. Darvish deserves credit for the way he pitched.

On the other side, Dylan Cease made his first career start against the team that traded him. He was awesome for the most part. Walks were a problem at times and he yielded a two-run home run to Kyle Schwarber which would eventually serve as the game-winner. It was good to see him have such a good game against them but Darvish was one earned run against better. Cease should tip his cap and move on.

The White Sox won the first two games pretty handily. They showed the world that they are right there with the Cubs if not better. The Sox are probably the best team that the Cubs have faced so far and they smoked them. This White Sox team is coming and coming fast. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak so now it is time to start a new one.

The biggest star of the series was Jose Abreu. Of course, players like Yasmani Grandal, Eloy Jimenez, and Luis Robert all had a great series but Abreu went above and beyond. In fact, he hit six home runs in the series. He hit two on Friday, three on Saturday, and one on Sunday. That is all probably going to earn him the player of the week in the American League because he was good in the series before against the Detroit Tigers as well.

It wasn’t awesome coming so close to winning the last game for the sweep and then falling short but any of us would have signed up for that series as is before it started. The White Sox showed the world that they can compete with the Cubs and perhaps be better than them. The Cubs are in a bad division that they will win with ease. Meanwhile, the White Sox are one of three teams in the A.L. Central with 17 wins or more so their path is much more difficult. That is why winning this series was so important.

Now, it is time to go back to worrying about other teams besides the Cubs. This is a big week for the White Sox as they play two teams they should be able to take advantage of. They play the Pittsburgh Pirates twice and the Kansas City Royals three times. When playing a Major League team, you always need to be prepared but they should be able to beat them both. This is a chance to really rack up some wins before they play the Twins. Hopefully, the big performance against the Cubs gives them the confidence they need.
