It is time for the Chicago White Sox to start talking to DJ LeMahieu.

The Chicago White Sox are a team loaded with superstars. They believe they are on track to compete for multiple World Series championships. They even just signed a brand new closer named Liam Hendriks, who also just happens to be the best relief pitcher on the planet. Their quest for a better roster doesn’t need to end there. They should really look at the current New York Yankees free agent, DJ LeMahieu. He still might go back to New York but he seems to be thinking about leaving.

If he does actually talk with other teams, the White Sox should absolutely reach out. He is a great player that can play all over the infield. He would probably come to the White Sox as a designated hitter in the first place but it is nice to have someone who can also play multiple positions. The White Sox haven’t had a good DH on the regular in a very long time.

He was brilliant in 2020. He had the best batting average in the American League to win his second career batting title. He also won his second career Silver Slugger and came in third place for the AL MVP. It was quite the season for him and it is sort of shameful that the New York Yankees can’t pay him. The Yankees aren’t usually the team that is losing anyone to free agency.

The White Sox are a World Series contender right now. They have an outstanding bullpen, an elite starting rotation, and an awesome starting lineup. They can still improve more as every team in the league can but they are in a really good spot. At this point, they might as well go all in.

Adding a superstar like LeMahieu would certainly put them over the edge. They already look like the odds on favorites to win the American League Central and getting to the World Series should be their next goal. The more help they add the better those chances become. It is especially more helpful in this case because this would also be weakening one of the other elite AL teams. It might not be likely, but it should be considered.
