Matt Heidenreich has been the ace of the Chicago White Sox Single-A Advanced team all season. He leads all Winston-Salem Dash starting pitchers in wins, ERA, strikeouts and innings.
His level of consistency is also the reason Heidenreich leads the Carolina League in wins and sits in the top five of those other three categories.
In July, it was more of the same for the big right-hander as he went 3-0 with a 2.43 ERA in six starts. He also had 30 strikeouts in 37 innings of work and opponents hit .243 against him.
His best outing of the month came on July 9th against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Cubs A advanced affiliate). Heidenreich picked up his ninth win of the season behind seven scoreless innings in which he allowed just four hits, one walk and struck out four.
For the season, he is 11-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 19 starts. In 117.2 innings, Heidenreich has 90 strikeouts and just 21 walks and while have hit .249 against him.
Honorable mention
Euclides Leyer stood out as the best among a bad pitching staff back in June. In July however, only Heidenreich’s performance can compete with the numbers he put up.
