Former White Sox infielder to manage Single-A Advanced Winston-Salem Dash in 2018. The infielder is also on Hall of Fame ballot for next year.

Omar Vizquel, who played with the White Sox from 2010-2011 will manage Single-A Advanced Winston-Salem in 2018. Vizquel was also placed on the Hall of Fame ballot for next year on Monday.

Vizquel played 24 major league seasons with Seattle, Cleveland, San Francisco, Texas, Chicago, and Toronto. The native Venezuelan never won a World Series but appeared in two Fall Classics with the Indians in 1995 and 1997. Vizquel is an 11-time Gold Glove winner and a three-time All-Star.

Last season, the Dash were managed by former Sox player Willie Harris. Harris has taken a minor league position in another organization according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The White Sox rebuild has gotten off to a nice start, and it should continue getting better as more prospects develop into major league quality players. Vizquel can certainly help develop some of the Sox top prospects and he has some coaching experience from his time with the Tigers. Vizquel was the Tigers first base coach over the past four seasons. He also interviewed for the Tigers managerial position after the end of this season.

With Vizquel back in the Sox organization, he can help to mentor the younger players that will be playing with Winston-Salem next season. The Sox will have a talented team of youngsters playing with the Dash in 2018, and Vizquel’s knowledge of the game should certainly help each player.
