White Sox top pitching prospect has a solid outing for Triple-A Charlotte but still allowed four walks on Wednesday night.

Chicago White Sox top pitching prospect Michael Kopech has been struggling throughout the month of June. Kopech has struggled with walks and has seen his ERA inflate from 3.86 at the end of May to 5.20 on June 14.

On Wednesday night, Kopech had one of his better starts this month against the Columbus Clippers of Triple-A. Kopech pitched five innings while allowing just two earned runs and recording six strikeouts in a 6-4 win for the Charlotte Knights. However, Kopech did allow four walks against Columbus.

With his start on Wednesday, Kopech improved his record to 3-5 and lowered his ERA to 5.08. This month, Kopech has had some poor outings for the Knights. On June 2 against Buffalo, Kopech allowed seven earned runs through just two innings pitched for Charlotte. On June 14 against Norfolk, Kopech allowed eight walks and five earned runs through three innings pitched.

While many Sox fans were hoping for Kopech to get promoted to the Majors soon this season, he’s showing he still needs more time to develop in Triple-A. His recent struggles suggest the Sox being patient with their top pitching prospect is the right call for a rebuilding team. If Kopech can come back from his tough month of June, he can still find his way to the Sox by September.

In Charlotte’s victory on Wednesday, two players that are currently on rehab assignments had good performances for the Knights. Avisail Garcia and Leury Garcia each had multi-hit games for Charlotte in their win over Columbus. Avisail Garcia went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Leury Garcia was also 2-for-4 for the Knights.

Both players are badly needed on the Sox and should return to the team soon. Avisail Garcia is hitting .360 through seven games with Charlotte. Leury Garcia has appeared in four games with the Knights and is hitting .429 with three doubles.
