White Sox Promote Eloy Jimenez to Triple-A Charlotte

White Sox promoted its top prospect to Triple-A Charlotte along with other promotions of prospects through minor league system on Thursday.

Chicago White Sox top prospect Eloy Jimenez has finally been promoted to Triple-A Charlotte. On Thursday, the Sox announced Jimenez had been promoted to the Knights along with two other players from Double-A Birmingham.

In a flurry of promotions on Thursday, Jimenez was the most notable promotion of any Sox prospect. After appearing in the Southern League All-Star Game on Tuesday, Jimenez has moved closer to joining the Majors with his promotion to Triple-A. Through 53 games this season with the Barons, Jimenez hit .317/.368/.556 with 10 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .925 OPS.

Catcher Seby Zavala and pitcher Ian Hamilton were also promoted to Charlotte from the Barons. This season, Zavala hit .271 with 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and seven doubles. Zavala was a 12th round draft pick for the Sox in 2015 and has impressed at every stop in the team’s farm system since being drafted.

Hamilton an 11th round draft pick of the Sox in 2016, had a strong season for the Barons before his promotion to Charlotte. In 21 appearances with Birmingham, Hamilton posted a 1.78 ERA with 34 strikeouts, 12 walks and a 1.26 WHIP. The right-handed pitcher also recorded 12 saves for the Barons this season.

While the Knights received three players from the Barons on Thursday, Birmingham saw seven players promoted from Single-A Advanced Winston-Salem. Dylan Cease, Bernardo Flores, Matt Foster, Zach Thompson, Luis Alexander Basabe, Alex Call and Joel Booker were promoted to Double-A on Thursday.

Cease had a spectacular first half of 2018 with the Dash. Through 13 starts, Cease went 9-2 with a 2.89 ERA, 84 strikeouts and a 1.12 WHIP. Acquired from the Cubs along with Jimenez last season, Cease will join a solid pitching rotation in Birmingham. The Barons starting rotation features Dane Dunning, Alec Hansen and now Cease.

Luis Robert was also promoted on Thursday. Robert appeared in 13 games for Single-A Kannapolis this season and hit .289 with three doubles, one triple and four RBIs. He also had four stolen bases with the Intimidators. Robert will get to end his season with the Dash after getting a late start on the year due to a thumb injury he sustained in Spring Training.
